Susanne Floyd Gunter
With 40 years of experience in the field, Susanne Floyd Gunter is the Chair of the Department of Art, 设计, & Letters and Program Coordinator at Converse University in 斯帕坦堡, SC. As a K–12 classroom art teacher and administrator for 28 years, Gunter received numerous awards. Most recently during her years at Converse, she received the 2015 Higher Education Level Award from the South Carolina Art Education Association and the 2019 Kathryne Amelia Brown Award for Teaching Excellence from Converse.
Dr. Gunter received a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction degree with a cognate in Art Education and an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Art Education degree from the University of South Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Limestone College.

As a practicing artist, Dr. Gunter exhibits locally and regionally. She has served on the boards of area organizations such as the Children’s Advocacy Center of 斯帕坦堡, 切罗基族, and Union and assists several non-profits, helping them to consider and develop plans for issues such as sustainability and capacity. Dr. Gunter serves as the Institutional Representative to the National Association of 学校 of Art and 设计 (NASAD), as the recent past chair of the NASAD Ethics Committee, as a 访问ing evaluator and as a presenter at the NASAD Annual Meeting.
Selected Publications & Presentations
Dr. Gunter co-authored with A. 雷勇敢的, The History of Arts Education in South Carolina: A Brief Retrospective, The South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education (May 2002), and contributed a chapter “Walking with Paulo in a Small Southern Town” in Bridging the Curriculum through Art (Wexler, A. and Shabag, V., editors, 2019). A lifetime member of the National Education Association and active member of the National Association of Art Education, she serves as a historian to the South Carolina Education Association and the South Carolina Art Education Association. She served two terms on the editorial review board for the journal Art Education.
